The Perks of Being A Wallflower - 02.26.14

Pages Read - 1 - 47
Prompt - Do you like what you're reading so far?

Honestly, I love what I am reading so far. I have seen the movie (which made me cry) and it was absolutely amazing, so I knew I wanted to read the book to see if it would be better or not. So far in the first chapter, I cried. One line really stood out to me, that was both in the book and in the movie was, "So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be." This line really pops out because I think that many people, including myself, can really relate to that. I'm not talking about how we have our bad days, but like how you actually just feel sad. Even when you laugh, or when you are with your friends, your happy, but sad. This quote really made me think about how sometimes the people that look the happiest, really are the most broken. In the book, Charlie is a really kind, and happy person. When he is sad, he doesn't like to show it, so this really made me think that maybe the people who laugh at everything, for a long time, are the sad ones, who don't laugh at all once they get home.

This book, has really been such an amazing one. I think that it is very entertaining and flows very well. The only thing I'm a little confused on is that Charlie, the main character, is always writing a letter to someone. He always addresses it, "Dear friend," and he always says hat he want to be anonymous to his "friend". I think I just really want to find out who is talking to. I predict that he is writing to his Aunt Helen, who he said was his best friend. But unfortunately, has passed away. The author still hasn't said why, but I have a feeling that she did it to herself.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower has really been an amazing book so far, I think that it might even be better than the movie. In the book, it explains a lot of the same things in the movie but more thoroughly, and reading it also kinda gives me the freedom to change the movie to how I would have seen it. I'm really excited to read the rest of the book!

  1. Citlalli I understand what you mean by happy but sad because you just feel like as if something is missing in your life to make it infinite. Then you just wonder how could that be? I thought the exact same thing as you did in the book. I just read another blog having almost the same theme as you. That the happiest person could be the most broken one. Also about Charlie writing to someone, I was really confused about that. I still kind of am but just keep reading. I am glad you are enjoying the book!

  4. I'm glad you are reading The Perks of Being A Wallflower, it's in an amazing read. I hope you've noticed the great differences between the book and the movie. I feel that even though they are dramatically different they are both still fantastic.

  5. I really like the interpretation that you have with the quote that you mentioned in the first paragraph. It's something that people have within them sometimes. People usually say that the books are better than movies and I'm guessing this is a time where it fits in. I love the movie. There is a lot of meaning to it. I'm looking forward in reading this book soon. Have fun with the rest of the book!
