I'm Not Gonna Lie And Other Lies You Tell When You Turn 50

Prompt - Does the title fit the story? Why or why not?

I think that the title fits perfectly with the book. In the book, George Lopez, basically talks about his life and how it has changed after he turned 50. This book has been really funny and he tells his story in a way that people that aren't even close to 50 can say to themselves, "Ohh yeah, I remember when I said that" The title fits the story in a way that isn't really about lies, but about how you act; towards your friends or family. George says a lot about how he now acts a lot more lazy and how "it is okay for me now since I'm old".

The title also fits the story because of how it actually looks on the cover of the book. On the cover it looks like he is saying "I'm not gonna lie" but he is thinking, "And other lies you tell when you turn 50". I feel like he also expresses a lot about how he always had so many ideas about what was going on in the world around him, but he knew that he shouldn't say anything, unless he would be seen as disrespectful or he would just be seen as a bad person because of what he thinks. I feel like this is very true for people nowadays. Mostly celebrities. I feel like they are under the spotlight so much that they feel like if they express what they feel, even a little bit, the whole world will turn against them and their career will just crumble to pieces.

In the book George always says how he is at the "turning age" and how turning 50 has really changed his mind about things in life. I feel like that is a point that he really wants to express. I'm really not sure why, and I don't think I'll know what he means until I actually turn 50, but he always talks about how people see him differently because he's old. He makes it seem funny, like he says that when he goes golfing all the "young kids" let him cut them in line because he's old.

  1. This is the first time I heard about a biography about George Lopez. I really didn't watch his midnight shows but I did watch his show George Lopez. I never knew someone would change just because they turned 50. In my opinion I thought that people changed when they turned 30 because they have a full life ahead of them. Does he mention who was his inspiration? Great Blog.

  3. Great blog this week. Good reasons for why the title fits the story. George Lopez is really funny. I want to read this book now because I like to read books that amuse me.

  4. I've seen many autobiographies with funny titles. This is a suitable title for a George Lopez book because it fits his personality, which is funny. If I grow to reach 50+, I'm going to use his excuse for being lazy. Fab blog post.

  5. I never even realized George Lopez was even that old! I always thought he was younger than 50, late 30's maybe? I really like how he did his cover with the thought bubble and then a speech bubble, showing what he says but what he's really thinking. I wouldn't have noticed it until you pointed it out! I feel like when you celebrities write a book about something on their minds and publish it, it's not taken as seriously as when they tweet or post something on Instagram which is sort of dumb, because who would rather read a tweet and take it seriously then a book. Great blog!

  6. Ever since a young age I had loved watching the show George Lopez. I had remembered that even at that age he was one of the few hispanics I had seen on TV. I also realized what a hilarious and great person he was, he was definitely someone I looked up to. Even since a young age.
