Prompt: Describe the major conflict. What side are you on?
At this point in the book, the main conflict is that Mrs.Starch, the most hated teacher in Truman School has been missing. It all started when the biology classes went on a field trip to Black Vine Swamp. The kids broke up into three groups, in the middle of the children's field trip, a small wild fire occurred, even though it was small all of the people, kids and teachers needed to get out. Mrs. Starch said she would go back and look for a student's asthma inhaler. No one really worried because one, they didn't really care, and two, because Mrs. Starch had brought her own car, so she wouldn't have trouble getting back. . . . But she didn't come back.

The next day, no one knew where she was, but one of the students, Libby, the girl who had lost her inhaler, had found her dog chewing on it at almost in the middle of the night. Libby thought that Mrs.Starch had maybe just dropped it off on the porch, so she ran and told the headmaster, Dr. Dressler. No one could really piece together what had really happened to Mrs. Starch. She couldn't have dropped off Libby's inhaler because she had missed school that day. And Mrs. Starch NEVER missed one day of school. Also, if she would miss school, she is required to call the school in advance. Nothing explained anything.
I don't really think there is a side to choose in this conflict because there really isn't two sides to it. But right now I predict that the whole book will be a mystery that starts to unfold. I feel like more clues will be let out, and Carl Hiaasen (The author) will kind of leave the reader up to figure it out.
The book really is a mystery. I've gotten further than you and the Plot really is starting to bloom. I don't want to spoil it for you, mainly because I'm not helping another Battle of the Books team.
ReplyDeleteGood blog! You explained your prompt really well, and you gave good details. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteWow so the most hated teacher is missing? Interesting.. I really like how you described the major conflict, In fact I really want to read this book. Great blog post!
ReplyDeleteDo you have an personal possibilites to how Mrs.Starch could of had just gone missing? Maybe she just got lost in the swamp. I'd actually want to keep on reading to see what happens next because I just love suspense in a book. I really like your perspective on how you think the author could possibly leave the reader to figure out what's going on. Amazing blog this week!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is a student named Smoke, that has also been missing, that had gotten into a recent argument with Mrs. Starch.
DeleteI commented on Maria, Carlos, and Isabella P's blogs.
ReplyDeleteYour graphic you include helps me visualize where they went on the field trip. Was Smoke missing prior to this field trip?
