I believe that both Miss Maudie and Calpurnia are alter egos of Scout and have many similarities. For example, they both treat Scout with respect and they are the only two feminine figures Scout actually likes and looks up to. Both of these women are also very outspoken and when they see something wrong, they will tell someone, whether it be to a group of people or just to one person. Calpurnia neither Miss Maudie are married. Another similarity that they have is their relationship with Scout; they are what I personally consider friends. Scout describes Miss Maudie by saying, "She had never told on us... (Chapter 5 pg. 36)" This shows that Scout really likes Miss Maudie because she would never snitch on them like the rest of the adults. Scout's relationship is also very friendly with Calpurnia, I remember in chapter 5, when Jem and Dill started excluding Scout and Calpurnia told her to come into the kitchen so they can hang.
Even though Cal and Miss Maudie have many things in common, they also have a plethora of things that are different for example, their skin color. This is very important in this book because either Miss Maudie has no problem with Calpurnia or she dislikes her very much. Another big difference that pops out to me would be what kind of role they have in the town. Calpurnia is a maid, but is also very friendly to everyone in the town while on the other hand Miss Maudie is only polite to certain people in the town. Even though both ladies were there for Scout while she was being excluded, Scout was spending time with them on different circumstances. "I spent most of the remaining twilights that summer sitting with Miss Maudie Atkinson on her front porch. (Chapter 5, pg. 42)" Scout spent time with her because she really had no one else to keep her company. On the other hand though, Calpurnia actually invited Scout and wanted to spend time with her.
